My health and fortitude bar lit up, what does this mean?

This means that you have dealt enough damage to become Empowered. There is a yellow bar at the very bottom that fills up when you’re dealing damage and healing. If your teammates perish, the threshold for becoming Empowered is lowered. When you have the Empowered buff you take less damage and deal more.
